Forgiveness Ought To Be Easy
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)
Today’s Morsel: One of the easiest things for Christians that they ought to be able to do is to forgive. We ought to be ready to forgive folks when they do us wrong. You say, that’s easy for you to say. Not it isn’t. We already know that scripture says. “For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.” (Hebrews 10:30) You see, if I take matters into my hands to get even, I may lose my soul. Jesus said, “Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.” (Matthew 5:25). To tell someone that you forgive them, and move on, is much easier than you getting into a fight, someone getting hurt, and you being found guilty and being sent to prison for your actions. Which would have been easier? Forgiveness isn’t about the other person. It’s about you. You must walk the high road not the low. If you take the high road, you will do what God and His word tells you to do. But if you take the low road, you will see the other person as wrong and you will want to see them burn and evil happen to them for what you feel they did to you. It would have been easy for Jesus to call down fire from heaven, or summons thousands of angels, upon those that crucified Him. But do you know what He did? He prayed for them. He said, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Think about His prayer. Forgive them because they don’t know what they are doing. Most folks, when they do you wrong or cause you hurt, don’t have a clue why they are doing it to you. You may say they do know what they are doing. No, they may not. They may not yet be at the point in their relationship with Jesus where they know right from wrong and how to follow God’s word and treat others. I don’t care if they’ve been in the church all their lives. Some folks don’t have a true relationship with Christ. Jesus has already told us that there are those whom He does not know. They may attend church, but they may have never gotten to the point where they love God more than themselves. You see, your relationship with Christ, and the Holy Ghost which you have received, will reveal to you what you must do when others do you wrong. And this is why it ought to be easier for you to forgive when others do you wrong.
Sing: Every hour of the day, keep me dear Lord I pray, let me walk in the light, let me hold fast to Him, so my way want grow dim, let me walk in the gospel light.
Let me walk in the light, in the great gospel light, let me walk in the gospel light. Till my journey is over and I travel no more, let me walk in the gospel light.
Thought For Today: “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:” (Matthew 6:14)
