Stop Blaming Temptation
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
Today’s Morsel: A few days ago, I mentioned that temptation was not a sin until you give into it. And that is true. Like other sins, they cannot do anything to us until we give in to them. Even when Samuel asks Saul why he offered burnt offering unto the Lord when he knew that that went against God’s word, he said, “I forced myself.” I can remember the Flip Wilson television show in the 60’s, where he used the catch phrase, “The Devil Made Me Do It.” He said that when he was tempted, fell into temptation, and gave into those temptations, he did it because 0f the devil that enticed him and he blamed the devil for causing him to give in to them. The devil cannot make you give into temptation. James say that we give in to them when we are drawn away by our own lust and enticed. If you become overweight, it is because you sit and eat two Bigmacs with cheese, an extra-large fry, and two large Cokes or Pepsi’s every day for lunch; it is not McDonald’s fault that you do that. It’s your own lust that is drawing you. We can’t keep blaming temptation for all our wrongdoing. Somewhere in our walk with God, we must become mature and grow up so that we do not allow ourselves to keep giving in to our flesh. Paul says that there hath no temptation taken you, but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.God will always give you a way out, or the ability to walk away from what you are being tempted by. You just need to be sensitive to the Holy Ghost when it speaks to you. And you must want to see the way out. But if you override it, then you are forcing yourself and the temptation will win every time.
Sing: Temptations, hidden snares, often take us unawares, and our hearts are made to bleed for each thoughtless word or deed; and we wonder why the test, when we try to do our best, but we’ll understand it better by and by.
By and by when the morning comes, When all the saints of God are gathering home, we will tell the story, how we’ve overcome, we will understand it better by and by.
Thought For Today: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” (James 1:12)
