Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2025 May 22

The Bible Is For Your Protection

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” (Proverbs 30:5)

Today’s Morsel: Some folks that read the Bible think that God is out to hurt them. But really, that’s not the purpose of the Bible. The Bible is God’s book for showing us how to live and have a successful and productive life. The stories in the Bible are to show us what happens when people do wrong, and do not follow the laws and ways of God. God is a God of character, righteousness, and truth. The application of life, which is found in the Bible, must be applied to our lives or we will follow the track of wrong as the stories in the Bible show us. The Bible teaches us how to love, care for, help, and treat others as we would like to be loved, cared for, helped, and treated. It’s called the ‘Golden Rule’. God’s word is a protector for us. It’s designed to help keep us safe and from falling into dangerous and evil ways. The way that God protects us is by His word, which His word is He Himself. This is why James tells us, I believe, not to be just a hearer of the word but we must also be a doer of it. If we want to have His protection, then we must obey His word. When Samuel told Saul that obedience was better than sacrifice, I believe that he was telling him that doing right according to God’s word, will always protect him from evil practices and evil ways. If you want to have God’s protection, then you must obey His word. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)

Sing: O, victory in Jesus, My Savior, forever, He sought me, and He brought me with His redeeming blood. He loved me ere, I knew Him and all my love His due Him, He plunged me to victory, beneath the cleansing flood.

Thought For Today: “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth forever.” (Psalms 119:160)
