Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2025 May 20

What’s Troubling You?

“On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.” (Esther 6:1)

Today’s Morsel: Have you ever had one of those nights that you just couldn’t sleep because something was bugging you, and you couldn’t figure out what it was? Well, the story in Esther shows us one of those nights. Haman, the ruthless Agagite, was out to kill all the Jews, but Esther and Mordecai had called for a fast and prayer meeting of the people to intercede on her behalf before she went to the King for his help. I am of a firm belief that when God’s people intercede for others, He will hear and make a way where there seems to be no way.  And so, just when Haman was about to carry out his plan, going to asks the king for permission to hang Mordecai, God intercedes and bring to the king’s memory that nothing has been done for Mordecai for saving His life. Not only was Haman chosen by the king to parade Mordecai through the streets on his horse, but the gallows which Haman had built to hang Mordecai on were used to hang Haman himself. Sometimes those sleepless nights just might be God’s way of calling to your remembrance for you to check to see if you have done the things that you know you ought to do. Maybe it is a reminder to send a letter of thanks to someone for what they did for you, or maybe it is for you to call and settle that settle a disagreement with a brother or sister, or a reminder to fulfill a pledge that you have made. Whatever it may be, you can never go wrong if you get up, open the book (The Bible), and start looking through its pages, as it always has a way of bringing things to your remembrance that you may have forgotten.

Sing: He touched me, oh He touched me, and oh the joy that floods my soul; something happened, and now I know, Jesus touched me and made me whole.

Thought For Today: God won’t wake you up for nothing.
