Building On a Firm Foundation

“And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:20-22)

Today’s Morsel: In September 1999, there was an earthquake which took place in Taipei, Taiwan. The death toll was 2,400, and some 10,000 people were injured. Thousands of houses collapsed, making more than 100, 000 people homeless. When one building’s foundation was inspected after the earthquake it proved to have been made with old 55gallon drums, pails, and other items that did not give it a firm foundation. Some contributed this weakened foundation to the loss of life.  Paul said that we are built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets and that Jesus Christ Himself is the Chief Cornerstone. What was this foundation which they laid that was so firm and solid? Paul said that it was Jesus Christ (1 Corinthian 3:11).  Our lives must be built and established upon Jesus Christ, His Word, and His ways. If you build life with false doctrine, false teachings, false gods, and without a life of holiness, you are ensuring yourself of a false and weak foundation. And when the storms of life come and cause your foundation to be tested and shaken, you are subject to falling. Which may cause spiritual injury or even death to you and your loved ones.   The apostle Peter helps us prepare by sharing with us the things, we ought to do to keep us from falling: “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-11) Are you building on that firm foundation?  Remember, Jesus Christ is the Chief Cornerstone of a firm a foundation.

Sing: Standing on the Rock of ages, safe from all the storms that rages; Rich, but not of Satan’s wages.  I’m standing on the solid Rock.
