Making Prayer A Habit
“Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever. All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not. Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.” (Daniel 6:6-10)
Today’s Morsel: As Christians, there are certain things that should become a habit in your life. Things such as reading your Bible, being a good example before others, attending church, and giving of your time, talents, and treasure. But at the top of your list ought to be a firm and committed life of prayer. You must never stop communicating with God. Jesus said that His house must be called a house of prayer (Matthew 21:13). And according to Hebrews 3:6, we are that house. “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.” (Hebrews 3:6) One of the ways that we get to know God, and the voice of God, is by staying close to Him and spending time in prayer with Him. Elijah is also an example to us of habitual prayer. Scripture says: “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.” (James 5:17-18) However, scripture says that Daniel prayed three times a day. He had established a habit of praying. And we see that the habit which he had developed in his life through prayer proved to be effective in his time of need. Are you building a habit of prayer?
Sing: Whisper a prayer in the morning, whisper a prayer at noon, whisper a prayer in the evening. Oh, keep your heart in tone.
