Master, The Tempest
Is Raging
“And the same day,
when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other
side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was
in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a
great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake
him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose,
and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind
ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so
fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said
one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey
him?” (Mark 4:35-41)
Today’s Morsel: When I was a
‘Reconnaissance Instructor’ in the Army, it was not uncommon for us to drop our
students into the water and make them wait not knowing what was there or when
we would return for them. Or we may take them somewhere out into the
woods, they had no idea where they were, and we would make them navigate
home. I am sure there were times that they felt as though they would
perish. I know I did when I first went through the training. But
this kind of training is designed to build your faith and to teach you to trust
in your abilities and others. The disciples of Jesus were afraid of
perishing in the storm even though Jesus was there with them. But for
them to build their trust and confidence in each other and in Jesus, they needed
to endure the storm. Jesus saves them, but not until they have felt the
sting of death. Sometimes Jesus is going to allow you to feel as
though there is no hope in your situation, but He will come through on time.
Sing: Master, the tempest is raging, the
billows are tossing high. The sky is overshadowed with blackness, no
shelter or help is nigh. Get up Jesus!
Because the winds and the waves shall obey Thy will, peace
be still! Peace be still! Whether the wrath of the storm toss sea,
or demons, or men, or whatever it be, No water can swallow the ship where lies,
the Master of ocean and earth and skies, shall all sweetly obey Thy will.
Thought For Today: He’s still the
Master of the sea.
