Just A Little While
“For all our days are
passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told. The days
of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be
fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut
off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to
thy fear, so is thy wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply
our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalms 90:9-12)
Today’s Morsel: When I was in
the military, each time the Army sent me to an assignment overseas, they issued
me a DEROS date for returning to America. At first, it seemed like a long
way off, but before you knew it, the time had passed, and we were heading
back. Psalms 90 is credited as being a prayer of Moses who states, “for
all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is
told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of
strength they be fourscore years yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it
is soon cut off, and we fly away.” It is only a little while. As I grow
older, I see just how short 70 years is. I am sure 40 years may have
seemed like a long time for the children of Israel in the wilderness. But
once they reached the Promised Land and were settled, they realized just how
short it was. The writer of Hebrews tells us, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of
reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God,
ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come
will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no
pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of
them that believe to the saving of the soul.” (Hebrews 10:35-39) I know that it seems like a long time that you have
been going through your pain and sickness. But hold on, Jesus is
coming. Ask the woman with the issue of blood. Ask Lazarus. Ask
Bartimaeus. Ask the man on Solomon’s porch. Your promise is coming
down that dusty road. Just a little while, so hold on.
Sing: Just a little while to stay here, just
a little while to wait, just a little more to labor in the path that’s always
straight. Just a little more of trouble, in this low and sinful state;
then we’ll enter Heaven’s portals, sweeping through the pearly gates.
Thought For Today: Hang in
there. Pretty soon we will be at home with friends.
