Count Your Blessings
“How precious also
are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should
count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still
with thee.” (Psalms 139:17-18)
Today’s Morsel: There seems to
be more ingratitude than gratitude among people these days. Where have we
gone wrong? Why are people not thankful? Why are they not content
with what they have? Well, Paul states that in the last days people would
be unthankful (2 Timothy 3:1-7). But this should not be in the
church. The church doesn't belong to the world. The church
belongs to Jesus. The psalmist
acknowledges, with wonder and thankfulness, the care God had taken of him all
his days. God, who knew
him, thought of him, and his thoughts towards him were thoughts of love,
thoughts of good and not of evil, Jeremiah 29:11. He states that God’s thoughts toward
him are precious. They are so valuable. Just knowing that God has
good thoughts for us should awe us, and cause us to realize how important we
are to Him. Like the psalmist, any time we count God’s thoughts towards
us, they should be counted precious to us, and cause us to bless the Lord for
all His great love towards us. We have so much to be thankful for.
It should be easy for us to have an attitude of gratitude.
Sing: When
upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed, when you are discouraged thinking
all is lost, count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will
surprise you what the Lord has done.
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
count your blessings, see what God hath done. Count your blessings, name
them one by one. Count your many blessings see what God hath done.
Thought For
Today: Every thought of God is precious toward you.
