Have Thine Own Way,
Lord
“The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Arise, and go
down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Then
I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the
wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the
potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to
make it. Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, O house of Israel,
cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in
the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.” (Jeremiah 18:1-6)
Today’s Morsel: In the movie
‘Gettysburg’, General Longstreet, tries to persuade General Lee that Pickett’s
charge is a bad strategy, citing the danger of crossing such a large open
area with so many troops. But his words seem to fall on deaf ears.
Sometimes we may see the danger of what others are about to do, but if they do not
heed our advice then there is really nothing we can do. The Lord sent
Jeremiah down to the potter’s house to observe a work being done by the potter.
Jeremiah notices that the vessel the potter is making is marred and must be
made over again. Then the Lord speaks to him and says, “O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD.
Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine
hand, O house of Israel.”
Our lives are in the hand of the Lord and sometimes we just may need to
be made anew. Jesus says that when we pray, we should pray Thy will be
done. God already knows what we have need of. So why not
simply allow Him to have His own way in our lives, situations, and
circumstances? He already knows what is best for us.
Sing: Have Thine own way, Lord! Have
Thine own way! Thou art the Potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after
Thy will, while I am waiting, yielding and still.
Thought For Today: His way is best!
