Allelujah
“And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven,
saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord
our God: For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great
whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the
blood of his servants at her hand. And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke
rose up for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell
down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And a
voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and
ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a
great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty
thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”
(Revelation 19:1-6)
Today’s Morsel: Allelujah is a Hebrew word that signifies "Praise ye the Lord". The
Jews say that the book of Psalms consists of ten sorts of songs, but Hallelujah
is the greatest of them because it comprehends the name (Jehovah) and praise in
one word.
The ‘H’ is a Hebrew letter and is a part of the tetragrammaton ‘YHWY’ or ‘JHVH’
which means Jehovah. So we see ‘Hallelujah’ is translated as praise
Jehovah, or what we say, Praise God or Praise the Lord. It is the highest
form of praise, and it means the same in every language. No matter what
country you may enter, and even if you cannot speak their vernacular if you say
Hallelujah, they know what it means. Hallelujah seems to be the only word
that means the same every place in the world. John writing from the isles
of Patmos states, “And after these things I heard a
great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory,
and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God.” There seems to be a non-stop
praise going on in the heavens. I don’t know about you, but I’m getting
ready to join the choir.
Sing: Allelujah, allelujah, allelujah,
Allelujah, allelujah, allelujah, allelujah!
Thought For Today: God inhabits
the praises of His people.
