Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2024 June 29

Don’t Live For Tomorrow Live For Today

“Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” (Proverbs 27:1)

Today’s Morsel: One of the things I will never forget that my pastor taught me is, “Live your life as if Jesus is coming back the next moment, and plan your life as is if He is not coming back for a hundred years.”  I have done my very best to live my life that way. Believe me when I say that it is less frustrating and more excited. James said: “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” (James 4:13-15) He said you don’t know what tomorrow holds for you. Therefore, he said, that we need to get in the habit of saying, “If the Lord will, we will do this or that,” because tomorrow isn’t promise. Moses even admonishes us: “For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalms 90:9-12). Don’t live for tomorrow, live for today. Tomorrow could be filled with too much trouble for you to enjoy.

Sing: This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord hath made, that the Lord hath made; I will rejoice, I will rejoice, and be glad in it, and be glad in it. This is the day that the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.  This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord hath made.

Thought For Today: “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.” (Romans 13:11)
