The Law

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” (Psalms 19:7)

Today’s Morsel: When we review the Old Testament instructions given by Moses from God to the children of Israel, there were a lot of instructions provided to them to follow. There was nothing that was really hard, but, like some folks today, they make it hard, because they do not understand the meaning of what God is saying in His word. People don’t take the time to sit down and ask their pastor or an elder for understanding. “For the law was given by Moses, (John wrote) but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17) You see, the law was God’s way of teaching us how to behave and to act. It showed us right from wrong. The law was more of a tool for character building and self-discipline. In a sense, the law taught civility. In other words, it taught politeness, courteousness, respectfulness, graciousness, and how to be considerate of others. This is one of the reasons I believe the Bible was used as a textbook in the schoolhouses during the 17th to 19th centuries. The psalmist said that the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. Without godly character, man is doomed for destruction. But when the inner man is changed, it produces an outward change in one’s actions, conduct, and behavior. Have you read the “Moral Law” in your Bible lately?

Sing: He’s changing me, my blessed Savior, I’m not the same person that I used to be. Well, it’s been slow going, but there’s a knowing, that someday perfect I will be.

Thought For Today: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)
