Why Is Your Heart Troubled?

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” (John 14:1)

Today’s Morsel: What things are troubling you right now? Is it your health? Is it COVID? Is it the loss of a loved one? Is it your employer or your job? Is it a concern for your mother, father, child, or friend? Is it the thought of war? Is it irregular weather patterns? Is it the continuous unending political fighting? Just what is troubling you? Jesus said that we should not allow our hearts (our minds) to be troubled. Through Solomon, He tells us to keep our heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). In other words, we need to guard our hearts carefully because when we don’t, things can creep in and trouble us. If we keep our minds clear, things will flow correctly, and we will not be troubled. But if we allow things to come in and confuse us and cause us to become upset, allow hatred and bitterness to creep in, if we take on the ways of the world, we are going to become restless, weary, and may even faint. Isaiah helps us see the importance of keeping our hearts free of clutter when he said, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3) A peaceful life is the sign of a trouble-free mind. And Paul helps us with staying trouble free with the instructions he gave to the church at Phillip: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” (Philippians 4:6-9) If you believe in God, stop sweating the small stuff as that’s what Satan wants you to focus on to keep you confused and your mind troubled.

Be Christ Like

“If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” (Philippians 2:1-12)

Today’s Morsel: What are you doing daily to become like Jesus? What are you doing to reveal His character in your life to others? Are you striving to go on to perfection? Jesus said that we should be perfect even as His father is perfect (Matthew 5:48)? What are you doing to get there knowing that Jesus is God? What are you doing to be holy like Him (1 Peter 1:16)? What are you doing to be light in this world, knowing that He is the Light of the world (John 8:12)? If we are to become like Christ, then we must become a doer of His Word, and not just a hearer of it. His word brings us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, so that we can make the appropriate adjustments in our life to reflect Him.  John informs us: “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” (1 John 2:6) 

Sing: To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, on earth I long, to be like Him.  All through life journey, from earth to glory, I only ask, to be like Him.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 March 29

Strength

“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5)

Today’s Morsel: Most people do not understand that their strength is even seen in their dress and appearance. When we come to the New Testament Church, we notice that God’s word calls for taking off and putting on. We are told to put on the whole armor of God so that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-11). We are told to put on the new man which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24). And now Peter tells us to be clothed with humility. In other words, that which frees us from pride and arrogance. Meekness; as arrogance and pride are weaknesses. You can’t defeat your enemy with his own weapons. We must be clothed according to God’s word, His armor, if you desire to defeat him.  The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. If we have a lackadaisical attitude in our dress and appearance, it reveals a sign of weakness to others. 

Sing: Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, lift-up your voice to God.   Pray in the Spirit and with understanding.  O’ magnify the Lord.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 March 28

Better

“But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.” (Hebrews 6:9)

Today’s Morsel: The main theme in the book of Hebrews is the word better. The writer said that God has provided something better for us. The children of Israel struggled in their walk in the wilderness because they did not mix the word of God with their faith when they heard it.  We must not harden our hearts. We are living here on this earth, but Jesus has gone to prepare something better for us. This life is full or challenges, hardships, and troubles for some, and rejections and confusions for others. But in Christ, being filled with His Spirit, life is so much better.  O’ taste and see that the Lord is good, said the psalmist. What you see before your very eyes, God has something even better. Israel had already lived in the promised land before they were ever taken into slavery in Egypt. But for some unknown reason, the story was lost and not passed to the next generation during the 400 years of captivity in Egypt, and the promise to their forefathers was lost. But God retained His promise to Abraham.  “And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.” (Genesis 15:13-16) But because they had a slave mentality, they couldn’t believe God for something better. What about you? Have you become so depressed and despondent that you can’t believe God for something better? Let me encourage you from the word of God: “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9) Do you love God? Then He has something better for you.

Responsibility

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18-19)

Today’s Morsel: One of the things that some folks fail to understand is that you cannot delegate responsibility. You can only delegate authority. Responsibility comes with your authority. Once you are elected or placed in position of leadership, the effectiveness of how well you will do in that position, rests upon how quickly you understand the responsibility which comes with it. If you are a leader who avoids or is one that is fearful of confrontation, you will not lead effectively. Confrontation is a responsibility of leadership authority. If you are a leader who avoids telling others what to do for fear of them leaving the church, you will not be an effective leader. Responsibility is attached to your authority. When the religious leaders asked Jesus by what authority He did the things that He did, He simply asked them a question about the baptism of John the Baptist. His question was, was what John doing baptizing people from God or man? They said that they could not tell. To which Jesus reply neither will I tell you by what authority I do things. Both John the Baptist and Jesus understood their authority and they both knew the responsibility which came with it. That’s why they were not afraid of confrontation nor to tell others what they needed to do.  Have you studied the responsibilities that came with your authority so you can be effective.

Sing: Be bold, be strong, for the Lord your God is with you. Be bold, be strong, for the Lord your God is with you. Do not be afraid, do not be dismay, because you’re walking in faith and victory, because you’re walking in faith and victory, because the Lord your God is with you.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 March 25

No Battle Experience

“And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.” (Exodus 14:10)

Today’s Morsel: When we have no battle experience, it makes it easy for us to fear and think that we are going to be defeated. I will give the US Army much credit for developing me with battle experiences. From my initial induction into the military, we were placed in battle scenarios to prepare us for what was to come as a soldier. Our training and teachings all focused on warfare and survival on the battlefield. So, when the army sent me off to war, I knew 95% of the things to expect. We see this with Jesus’ development of His disciples. After He had taught them, scripture says: “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” (Luke 10:1,17) The children of Israel had been in captivity for over 400 years, so they had no battle experience of how to defeat their enemies. And so, when Pharaoh pursued after them, when they saw them, they were fearful. They had no weapons; they only had kneading troughs. If we are to defeat our enemy on the battlefield, then we need experience. Paul states, “but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” (Romans 5:3-5) Are you teaching Bible studies? Are you witnessing? Just what are you doing to gain some battle experience?  You need to be battle ready.  

Sing: Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath or stored; He has loosed the fateful lighting of his terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on.

Where Did You Lose Your Faith

“And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?” (Mark 4:35-40)

Today’s Morsel: When most people first come to God, they become excited about their new way of life, way of living, and their faith in God. But over a period of time, they may lose their zeal and their faith may even falter.  This was true with Jesus and His disciples. Jesus made a comment that some of them did not like. Scripture says: “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?” (John 6:66-67). Sometimes it is easy to lose our faith if we do not make up our mind to serve Jesus and become committed. If we aren’t careful, when someone says something that we do not like, or if they do something that we do not understand in the church, it can cause us to become upset and begin to lose our faith. And the reason we may lose our faith is because we are focusing on people and not on God. If we do not retain a strong relationship with Jesus, it makes it easier for Satan to use others to deter us and destroy our faith. Are you feeling faithless today? Take a moment, stop, and reevaluate where you lost your faith. Did you get angry at someone and walk away? Did someone do something to you that caused you to lose it? Just where were you? Sometimes it may be painful for you to return to the location to regain what you’ve lost. But if you want to regain your faith, then you may have to do just that.   Go back to the altar and regain your faith and your strength.  You will be glad you did.  

Sing: Take me back, take back dear Lord, to the place where I first received You. Take me back, take me back dear Lord where I first believed.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 March 23

Why Did You Doubt

“And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” (Matthew 14:28-31)

Today’s Morsel: Even though we are filled with the Holy Ghost, know who Jesus is, and have been baptized in His name, there can still be that little bit of apprehension that comes where we allow fear to overtake us and causes us to doubt. I often wonder how many times Peter had been out on that sea fishing, and never allowed it to faze him. Had he never been at sea where the storm had caused such massive waves and boisterous winds? Why was he now afraid of drowning? Could he not swim? What is it about large bodies of water that cause some to fear and doubt? When Jesus pulled Peter from the water, He asked him why did he doubt? What things cause you to doubt? Do you doubt God’s ability to heal when you get a bad doctor’s report? Do you doubt God’s ability to restore your loved one if they backslide? Do you doubt God’s ability to open a door for you to get a good job so you can provide for your family? Do you doubt God’s ability to make your enemies to be at peace with you? When God comes through for us for the things which we have asked Him for, we oftentimes will testify of His goodness. So why do we doubt when He delays in answering?  Why not testify before the answer comes?  Always remember, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Sing: I was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore, very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more.  But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry from the waters lifted me, now safe am I.

Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When nothing else could help, love lifted me. Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When nothing else could help, love lifted me.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 March 22

Building On a Firm Foundation

“And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:20-22)

Today’s Morsel: In September 1999, there was an earthquake which took place in Taipei, Taiwan. The death toll was 2,400, and some 10,000 people were injured. Thousands of houses collapsed, making more than 100, 000 people homeless. When one building’s foundation was inspected after the earthquake it proved to have been made with old 55gallon drums, pails, and other items that did not give it a firm foundation. Some contributed this weakened foundation to the loss of life.  Paul said that we are built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets and that Jesus Christ Himself is the Chief Cornerstone. What was this foundation which they laid that was so firm and solid? Paul said that it was Jesus Christ (1 Corinthian 3:11).  Our lives must be built and established upon Jesus Christ, His Word, and His ways. If you build life with false doctrine, false teachings, false gods, and without a life of holiness, you are ensuring yourself of a false and weak foundation. And when the storms of life come and cause your foundation to be tested and shaken, you are subject to falling. Which may cause spiritual injury or even death to you and your loved ones.   The apostle Peter helps us prepare by sharing with us the things, we ought to do to keep us from falling: “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-11) Are you building on that firm foundation?  Remember, Jesus Christ is the Chief Cornerstone of a firm a foundation.  

Sing: Standing on the Rock of ages, safe from all the storms that rages; Rich, but not of Satan’s wages.  I’m standing on the solid Rock.

Making Prayer A Habit

 “Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever. All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not. Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.” (Daniel 6:6-10)

Today’s Morsel: As Christians, there are certain things that should become a habit in your life. Things such as reading your Bible, being a good example before others, attending church, and giving of your time, talents, and treasure. But at the top of your list ought to be a firm and committed life of prayer. You must never stop communicating with God. Jesus said that His house must be called a house of prayer (Matthew 21:13). And according to Hebrews 3:6, we are that house. “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.” (Hebrews 3:6) One of the ways that we get to know God, and the voice of God, is by staying close to Him and spending time in prayer with Him. Elijah is also an example to us of habitual prayer. Scripture says: “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.” (James 5:17-18) However, scripture says that Daniel prayed three times a day. He had established a habit of praying. And we see that the habit which he had developed in his life through prayer proved to be effective in his time of need. Are you building a habit of prayer?

Sing:  Whisper a prayer in the morning, whisper a prayer at noon, whisper a prayer in the evening.  Oh, keep your heart in tone.

Following The Thing That Good Is

“But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.”
(Psalms 38:19-20)

Today’s Morsel: It seems that some folks today will follow after anything. They seem to give no thought and consideration to who they are following, and what the people or groups they are following even stand for. Solomon states that there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death. If you have ever watched a pack of hyenas, they travel in packs, but they will so quickly turn on each other.  The Psalmist stated that his enemies are lively, strong, and they hated him wrongfully, and they that rendered him evil for good were his adversaries, because he follows the thing that good is. You see, when you follow Jesus, and His ways, there are going to be some folks that just don’t like you because of your desire to serve Christ and take a stand for righteous. Even those in your own family will sometimes hate you, calling you goody-two- shoes. But you must not allow them to deter you from seeking and following that which is good. Doing good may not be what saves you, but it sure does show your character to others. So, keep following Jesus, He has the final say.

Sing: Where He leads me, I will follow. Where He leads me, I will follow. Where He leads me, I will follow, I’ll go with Him, with Him, all the way.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 March 18

The Light We Carry

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

Today’s Morsel: Michelle Obama has written a book entitled, ‘The Light We Carry’. I haven’t read it, but I hope to some day. The title caught my eye as Jesus speaks to this same subject about Himself and His followers. The gospel is like a baton being carried in a relay race. It must be held tight until it is ready to be passed to the next runner, and then we must pass it off carefully so that they do not drop it.  It is the light of the gospel that each of us are carrying. Our character, attitude, faith, and submission will determine if we carry it right, or cause it to be diminished or extinguished. If others cannot see Jesus on full display in your life, then the light is gone out inside of you, and you have dropped the baton.  Eli, the high priest, was charged with ensuring that the lamp was always burning in the temple. But in his old age he allowed the light to go out; thus, violating God’s command that the lamp should ever be burning.  You must never allow the light in you to God out.  Jesus said that you must give light to everyone in the room. If you allow the world to snuff out your light, then you are not carrying it correctly. This light that we carry must be held high so that the whole world can see. You are called to be a statue of liberty.

For An Unlimited Time

“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” (Matthew 25:1-13)

Today’s Morsel: Do you ever get one of those ads in the mail that says, “Apply now to get this item at this price for this is a limited time offer.” Is it a scam or a good deal? Who knows? Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven was like 10 virgins that got a call to go out and meet the bridegroom. But because he delayed, they slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, not so; less there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. They were given a limited time to get in and they missed it because they were not prepared. Jesus said that He Has going to prepare a place for us and will come back for us. Therefore, we had better be ready because when He comes there isn’t going to be any time to get ready. This offer is only for a limited time. And from what I see taking place in the world, I would say that His offer to be saved is just about ready to expire.  Are you ready for His return? 

Sing: O, my brother, are you ready for the call? To crown Your save King and Lord of all? The Kingdom’s of this world shall soon before Him fall; We shall see the King when He comes. 

We shall see the King, we shall see the King, we shall see the King when He comes.  He’s coming in His Power, we’ll hail the blessed hour.  We shall see the King when He comes.

Exploring God’s Word

“And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily. Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them. Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis; And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.” (Acts 16:5-12)

Today’s Morsel: A lot of people are now taking cruises and exploring different parts of the world. They now have a cruise where you can explore the Mississippi River from Minnesota where it begins, to Louisiana where it ends. When is the last time you took an exploring trip through the Bible? Now you can go to the internet or Bible app and follow the trails of Paul, Moses, Jesus, the apostles, and even the children of Israel’s stops and journey in the wilderness. If someone were to ask you about Macedonia, would you know of its history and location, and what Biblical event took place there? It was here that Paul and Silas were beaten and cast into prison then at midnight they prayed and sang psalms, and an earthquake happened causing the prison doors to be open. Afterwards the jailer and his house were baptized. Exploring the Bible could be a great adventure game for you to play with your children and grandchild. Not only will it educate them in geography, but it will also give them an opportunity for increased interest and excitement for knowing more of the Bible.  

Sing: Deeper! Deeper! In the love of Jesus, daily let me go. Higher! Higher! In the school wisdom more of grace to know.

O deeper yet I pray, and higher every day.  And wiser blessed Lord, in Thy blessed holy Word.

Reset

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” (Acts 3:19)

Today’s Morsel: Oftentimes in our walk with God, we may need to hit the reset button so that we remain focused and on track. It’s easy to lose focus and get off track if we are not careful. This is war that we are in it, and it can be with confusing noises and garments rolled in blood. When there isn’t a steady flow of the Holy Ghost in our lives, we may need to hit the reset button and get it flowing again. Peter told the people to repent and be converted that their sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing would come from the presence of the Lord. Sin will block the flow of the Holy Ghost in your life if you aren’t careful. It’s easy to let sin in when you are tired and lose focus.  Paul told Timothy: “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6) At this point, Timothy may have begun to lose faith and trust in the ministry to which he had been called. Sometimes serving can become lonely. So, Paul wanted him to realize his legacy of his faithful mother and grandmother, and that he should immediately hit the reset button and get the Spirit stirred up and flowing again in his life. Let me encourage you today, if you are on the verge of losing hope and faith, go to your knees or lift your hands to Jesus and sing a praise song to Him, and allow Him to reset and revive your spirit.

Sing: In moments like these, I sing out a song, I sing out a love song to Jesus. In moments like these, I lift-up my hands, I lift-up my hands to the Lord.

Little Moments Can Have A Big Impact

“And he must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.” (John 4:4-26)

Today’s Morsel: Strong social connections are central to our physical, mental, moral well-being. And yet many people live in isolation out of necessity, or they may choose to live in isolation. But either way, isolation is not good for any of us. Jesus made us to connect. After making Adam, He said that it is not good that man should be alone, and He made him a helpmeet. One of the things about being a Christian is we must be social to people and those that we encounter. Just a little moment with others can have a big impact on their lives, and our’s, too. When Jesus met the woman of Samaria at Jacobs well, she was probably perplexed that He was talking with her, and Jesus may have been surprised that she was responding to Him, since they each knew that there was division between the Jews and the Samaritans. Even Jesus’ disciples were shocked to learn that He talked with her. But we see that just a little moment with her by Jesus, made a big impact in that city. The woman ran back into the city after talking with Him, saying: “Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” (John 4:29) Just a little moment made a big impact. “And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.” (John 4:39-42) Do you have a little moment for others? It could make a big impact in their lives. 

Sing: Little is much when God is in it, labor not for wealth and fame.  There’s a crown and you can win it, if you go in Jesus’ name.

Membership Is for Me

“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.” (Ephesians 4:25)

Today’s Morsel: I’m sure most of you like me are aware that to be a member of certain groups and organizations you will have to believe and do certain things.  They may not be a secret society as some are, but their members are identified by tattoos, rings, pins, buttons, flags, and handshakes. Even though I am thankful to be a member of many organizations, such as the Occupations Chaplains of America, the US Army Sergeants Major Academy, and the US Army’s Sergeant Morales Club, none of them compares to holding a membership in the church. Membership in the church of Jesus Christ is important. Even though we have many members, Paul said, there is but one body. Membership means that you maintain affiliation, relationships, and association.  You just don’t want to have any Tom, Dick, or Harry, making rules, setting policy and procedures, and leading others.  You don’t want someone leading who is not born again and does not believe the apostolic message. Paul even stresses the rules for membership in the church: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1; “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.”  I don’t know about you, but when it comes to the church, I want men ruling over me who are just, ruling in the fear of God; and those who believe the same apostolic message that Jesus and His disciples taught. Friend, that type of membership is for me.

Sing: I’m so glad that I’m a part of the family of God; I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood. Joint heirs with Jesus, as we travel this sod.  I’m so that I’m a part of the family of God.

Life Alert

“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” (Psalms 91:11-16)

Today’s Morsel: I read a Life Alert advertisement the other day and it said that with Life Alert you are never alone. “Life Alert is always with me, at home and away from home. Only with Life Alert, batteries never need charging! So, you’re always protected.” When I read that ad, I thought to myself, that’s just like Jesus. The way, the truth, and the life. He is always alert to our need. He came to give us life and that more abundantly. With Jesus, we are never alone (Hebrews 13:5), whether home or away, He’s always right there. He never runs out of power, as he has all power (Matthew 28:18); and we are always protected by Him. “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways” (Psalms 91:11) “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (Isaiah 41:10).  Do you need Life Alert?  Just give Jesus a call.

Sing: I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore, very deeply stained with sin, sinking to rise no more; But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry, from the waters lifted me, now safe am I.

 Silent Killers

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalms 51:1-10)

Today’s Morsel: In life, we continue to hear about silent killers. Things such as cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, glaucoma, and osteoporosis. Out of these, heart disease is classified as the number one silent killer, followed by cancer being the second. The Bible speaks so often to us about guarding and keeping our hearts. We must rid of our mind and intellect of anything that can destroy us. We may not think that reading certain books, listening to certain music, or watching certain television programs or movies will affect us. But ask yourself, where do most of the vile and defamation language spoken by those in the world come from? It comes from television and worldly music. You must guard your mind. Secular music, and even some Christian music and artists, must be carefully filtered as they can be a silent killers if one is not careful. David prayed for the Lord to create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. We must guard our heart, or it can become damaged and kill our spiritual walk and relationship with Christ. Do you start your day by praying and asking God to guard your heart, your spouse’s heart, and your children’s hearts and minds? Confusion in the mind can cause confusion in life and can cause wrong decision making. When is the last time you’ve had a heart check-up? Right now, might be a good time for you to filter it through the word of God and check to ensure it is still pure, clean, and functioning righteously.

Sing: Search me, O God, and know my heart today.  Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray. See if there be some wicked way in me.  Cleanse me from every sin and set me free.

The Body

“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.” (Ephesians 4:11-16)

Today’s Morsel: Where do you fit into the body of Christ? What roll do you play in completing the body of Christ? Are you the pinky finger, big toe, nose, eyes, ears, mouth, foot, just what part are you in making the body complete? If we are not careful, we can think that we do not have a part in the body of Christ because we are not occupying a pulpit, leading worship, teaching Sunday school, ushering, or greeting. But really, you do have a part in make the body whole and complete. And that part is edifying of itself (the body) in love. Loving one another. When you show that you love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and your neighbor as yourself, you are helping to complete the body and keep it whole. When you show compassion, bring a smile to someone’s face, and help spread the gospel to the whole world, you are helping to keep the body edified in love. Always remember, attitude is small, but it makes a big difference.

 The Loss That Made Him Better for His Job

“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:7-14)

Today’s Morsel: Some folks find it hard to let go of their secular careers or jobs for the kingdom of God. They feel that if they let go and pursue ministry, they may lose out and not be able to care for themselves and their family when they are older. But doesn’t scripture tell us that the righteous shall never be forsaken? Doesn’t God promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us? Doesn’t He promise to help in a time of need? Don’t we believe that if God calls, He will provide. The apostle’s felt the same way when they stated that they had left all to follow Jesus. “Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.” (Matthew 19:27-29) Maybe you are struggling with attending church, being involved with church, or you may feel that you aren’t getting anything out of church anyway, so why devote yourself to ministry. If this is the case, then ask yourself how did I get to this point in my walk with God? Paul said that he counted those things which he had lost but dung, so that he may be found in Christ, not having his own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith. The things which Paul felt that he had lost, proved to aid him in doing a better job with preaching the gospel and seeing lives changed. When Paul committed himself to ministry, he found joy in the job he was now called to do, and he missed nothing about the past. When you are willing to forsake secular for spiritual, you do not lose, you always gain.

Sing: Jesus use me, O’ Lord don’t refuse me, for surely there’s a work that I can do. And even though its humble, Lord, help my will to crumble, though the cost be great, I’ll work for You.

Break Those Bad Habits

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-12)

Today’s Morsel: One of the things about bad habits is they will keep popping up until you make up your mind to rid yourself of them and stop doing them. One of the reasons that God gives us the Holy Ghost is so that we will have the power and the ability to stop doing wrong things and break bad habits. Smoking is classified as a bad habit because it has been proven to cause cancer. Drinking alcohol is classified as a bad habit because it has been proven to cause impaired vision while driving and cirrhosis of the liver. Lying, cheating, and stealing are all classified as bad habits because they destroy one’s character. If a child has bad habits, then ask yourself if you have spared the rod. As Solomon states: “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” (Proverbs 22:15) Just know the difference between a spanking and abuse. You spank with love; you punish with abuse. The apostle Paul lets us know that if we plan to go to heaven, then we must break bad habits in our lives.  He stated: “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-12) You should not have any bad habits in your life as a Christian.

Sing: Well, I’ve been changed, I am newborn now, all my sins has been rearranged.   What a difference He made when the Lord came to stay, in my heart, O’ yes, I’ve been changed.

Where Are They Now?

“Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” (John 8:1-11)

Today’s Morsel: Do you ever sit and wonder where the people are that you once knew, maybe those you served in the military with, or someone you worked on a job with, or maybe someone you meet while visiting a foreign country? I know in my life, there have been many people that I have had the opportunity to serve with, worship with, witness with, and even worked with, but I now have no clue where many of them are today.  When Jesus asks the woman that was caught in adultery where her accusers are, she couldn’t find them. I’m sure she may have thought within herself why wan’t I stoned? Why wasn’t I recommended to be killed by this righteous man, since she probably knew that she was guilty of the infraction that was being leveled against her. But little did she know that Jesus said that His mission was to seek that which was lost. He said: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18-19)  You see, Jesus is a God of second chances. That’s why he is willing to forgive us of our sin. Remember, Satan is the accuser of the brethren. But Jesus came that you might have life and that more abundantly. Maybe there were those who wrote you off as no good and that you would never amount to anything. But where are they now?  Let me encourage you, when others write you off as being no good or being nothing, Jesus will write you in as something good.

Sing: He touched me, oh, oh, He touched me; and oh, the joy, that floods my soul.  Something happened, and now I know, Jesus touched me and made we whole.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 March 4

The Day My Life Changed

“Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” (John 9:24-25)

Today’s Morsel: What event or situation would you say that happened in your life that you realized that you needed to change? If you were to ask the apostle Peter, I’m sure he would probably say that it was the day that Jesus asked to use his boat to teach from, and then afterwards asked him to launch out into the deep for a draught and he caught so many fish that he needed others to help him. Or maybe if you were to ask the apostle Paul, he may tell you that it was on the road to Damascus arresting Christians and he was struck blind and could not see for three days, and then God gave him his sight back. I have heard folks say that they need to make changes in their lives, but they seem to have trouble trying to accomplish it. Many of them will make New Year’s Resolutions with the intent of changing, but they fizzle out before the end of January. They know they need to change, but they lack the will power and follow through to continue to completion.  If we recognize that we need to change, then we must have determination and resolve to go all the way. You see, if nothing changes, nothing changes. Jesus will help us if we seek Him for His help. The day that I realized that I needed a change in my life was the day that I heard the truth of the gospel. And when I prayed and asked Jesus to help me, He heard my cry and gave me understanding of the things that I needed to do to bring about that change. I was told to obey Acts 2:38 and my life would change. I obeyed, and my life was changed forever.  How about you?  Do you need a change in your life?  Jesus is the answer.

Is Jesus Enough

“The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough: The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.” (Proverbs 30:15-16)

Today’s Morsel: Do you ever think about what it must have felt like for Adam and Eve to be driven from the Garden of Eden by God for their disobedience? Why do you think that with every tree in the garden that was good for food, they couldn’t resist the one that God instructed them not to partake from? I know that Satan tempted Eve, the same way that he tempts us, and she ate, but when is enough, enough? Jesus is the tree of life and that tree sat right in the middle of the garden.  It had no limit on how much from it they could eat.  The other trees as well. Only the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was forbidden.  Solomon states that there are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not that it is enough: The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, it is enough. Is Jesus enough for you, or are you still craving for something more? Is the world tugging at your heart telling you that there is more? When is enough, enough? Friend, if Jesus isn’t enough, you will never be content or satisfied.

I’m Contagious

 “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.” (Acts 4:13-18)

Today’s Morsel: One of the things that the enemy of your soul hates worse than anything else is you being a devoted Christian to Jesus, and you telling others about Him. As Jesus told Peter: “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.” (Luke 22:31-32) Jesus also informed His disciples, “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” (Matthew 10:22) You are going to be hated. Some folks hate you because you are spreading truth that is changing people’s lives, and the devil doesn’t like it. But we see that even with this promise by Jesus that they would be hated for His name’s sake, they still became contagious with the gospel and went everywhere preaching the Word. They were not going to be stop, even with threats and beatings. They were committed to contaminating the whole world just as Jesus had told them to do (Mark 16:15-18). You see, when you are contagious with any kind of disease, there is a good chance that someone is going to catch it from you. Therefore, I conclude, that when we become born again, we become contagious the same as Jesus and His disciples were. Then wherever you go, somebody is going to catch what you have. Think about that for a moment. Where were you when you got contaminated with the gospel? Who contaminated you because they were infected?

Continuous Praise

“And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon: of shittim wood shalt thou make it. A cubit shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof; foursquare shall it be: and two cubits shall be the height thereof: the horns thereof shall be of the same. And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns thereof; and thou shalt make unto it a crown of gold round about. And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under the crown of it, by the two corners thereof, upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it; and they shall be for places for the staves to bear it withal. And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold. And thou shalt put it before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee. And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it. And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.” (Exodus 30:1-8)

Today’s Morsel: When we view the instructions given to Moses by God, it is often stated, “It shall be perpetual or continuous throughout your generations.” In other words, when God instructs us through His word, it isn’t just for the moment, it is something that must be continuous or perpetual throughout our generations as well.  Praying, reading your Bible, church attendance, giving, loving God and others, living holy, having compassion, witnessing, having respect for yourself and others, and serving others must be continuous. Paul told the church at Ephesus: “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.” (Ephesians 5:1-4) Notice, follow the example of Christ and don’t let fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness be named among you as a saint. These things must be perpetual throughout your lifetime. And might I add that we should be handing down the standard to our children and our children’s children.  Moses was told that Aaron must light the lamps at evening, and that he should burn incense upon it, as a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout their generations. Continuous. You are the Temple of the Holy Ghost. Therefore, you must never let the lamp go out, nor your sweet incense of praise to God cease from your lips. If you want something to be a habit, do it even when you don’t feel like it.  Let your praise be continuous.
