Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 Feb 11

 Why Should I Worry

“For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:24-31)

Today’s Morsel: One of the things that I am starting to see more of is worried people. There isn’t a day that goes by that I do not meet someone who is worried about their health, the weather, the economy, the way the nation is going, the war in Ukraine, the threat of China against Taiwan, that the church is losing its purpose and status, gas prices, political unrest, and that the next generation will have nothing to look forward to.  Worried! Paul lets us know why we shouldn’t worry. He said that the spirit helps our infirmities. If God is for us, he said, then don’t worry about the other stuff. Jesus told His disciples: “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” (Matthew 6:25-34) He said don’t worry about the things that you have no control over. Just seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and the other things you need will also be taken care of, and you will be just fine.

Sing: Why should I be discouraged, and why should the shadows come.  Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home. When Jesus is my portion, a constant friend is He, His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches over me.

I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I am free.  His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches over me.
