The Power of The
Cross
“For the preaching of
the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is
the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)
Today’s Morsel: Last year I
published a book entitled “The True Cross Bears”. My goal was to show
that if we are going to carry the cross that Jesus said that we should carry,
then we needed to understand what He meant. Paul said that the preaching
of the cross is to them that perish foolishness. In other words, Paul
says that the cross of Christ; the doctrine of
salvation by crucifixion;
and the doctrine of peace and reconciliation by the
blood on that
cross, and righteousness, pardon, atonement, and satisfaction by the offering
up of oneself upon it as a
sacrifice for our sins, by the people who do not know Him and the
reason; is foolishness. But He said that to those who understand why He did it,
it is power. Do you know why Jesus did it for you? The writer of Hebrews
informs us, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and
without shedding of blood is no remission. It was therefore necessary that the
patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the
heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not
entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the
true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us”
(Hebrews 9:22-24) If we do not preach the cross, the gospel, people will
remain foolish, powerless, and die in their trespasses and sin. Take up
your cross daily and follow Him.
Sing: So
I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies, at last, I lay down.
I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it someday for a crown.
Thought For Today: Keep
your eyes on the cross.
