The
Highest Standard
“Who is
like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness,
fearful in praises, doing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11)
Today’s Morsel:
When I was in the army, it was not uncommon during higher headquarters
inspections to our unit for some soldiers or sections to be rated or the entire
unit to be rated as exceeding prescribed standards. Many soldiers were
recognized with awards or certificates for going beyond the requirements.
What would make them be recognized in this way? In most cases it was
commitment to excellence by them and their leadership. Other times it was
pride in self and organization. When it comes to the church, God has set a
higher standard for all of us. That standard is holiness. The writer of
Hebrews informs us, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see
the Lord”
(Hebrews 12:14) Holiness is being consecrated
and set apart to God. It is maintaining a consistent state of His
character and righteousness in our life. It’s holding ourselves
accountable to what God says that we should be, know, and do. Holiness is
not just doing the standard; it’s going beyond the standard and reaching for
excellence.
Sing: Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy!
Holy! Holy is the Lord God Almighty. And He’s worthy to receive glory,
worthy to receive honor; Worthy to receive all our praise today.
Thought For Today: Holiness … The
highest standard in the church.
