Freedom
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
Today’s Morsel: Today across America, we will celebrate Independence Day. Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America. The Founding Fathers declared that the Thirteen Colonies were no longer subject and subordinate to the monarch of Britain, King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states.
These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated”? ― The Crisis
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32) The only way that America will remain a free nation is if she keeps God and His word as her true foundation. The day she removes that foundation will be the day she chooses to no longer be a great nation.
