Set Some Boundaries Around Your Life

“My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.”

(Proverbs 7:1-2)

Today’s Morsel: One of the safest ways to protect yourself is to set some boundaries around your life. Biblical, church, and personal convictions are not there to hurt or restrain you. They are there to protect you. Boundaries serve as a reference point for you to stop and consider if you are getting outside of the safety zone. I can remember when my wife would say to the kids, you can play outside, but you cannot go past certain houses or landmarks. She wasn’t trying to restrain them or stop their fun, she wanted to be able to see them for their protection. Solomon said, “For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:” (Proverbs 6:23) These things ought to be our boundaries. He asks a question for you to consider. “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.” (Proverbs 6:27-29) This is one of the reasons men need some boundaries in their lives. And he does the same with women. He said: “When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:” (Proverbs 2:10-15) Boundaries are just another word for guardrails to keep you in your lane.

Sing: Jesus hold my hand, Lord, I need Thee every hour. Through this pilgrim land, protect me by Thou saving power. Hear, my feeble plea, oh, Lord, look down on me. When I kneel in prayer, I know You’ll meet me there, blessed Jesus hold my hand.

Thought For Today: “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.” (Psalms 101:3)
