Corruptible Crowns
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” (1 Corinthians 9:24-27)
Today’s Morsel: If you have ever visited the home or office of a military retiree, you have probably seen many of their corruptible crowns. Airborne Badges, Berets, Drill Sergeants hats, Air Assault Badges, Sniper Badges, Seal Badges, and Plaques listing their achievements. These items all show that they were willing to sacrifice themselves for a corruptible crown. Paul states, “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?”Then he says, “but they are doing it to obtain a corruptible crown.” But he said, this race in that we are running in, we are running to obtain an incorruptible crown. So run to obtain an incorruptible crown. A Crown of Life (Rev 2:10) A Crown of Righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8). A Crown of Glory (1 Peter 5:4). Solomon states: “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11) He said everyone has the same chances. You can win this race and receive an incorruptible crown. You must apply yourself by getting into the race and running to obtain.
Sing: Lord, I’m running, trying to make a hundred, ninety-nine and a half won’t do. (2x).
99 won’t do. 98 won’t do. 97 won’t do. 96 won’t do. 95 won’t do.
Lord, I’m running, trying to make a hundred, ninety-nine and a half won’t do.
Thought For Today: “Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” (Revelation 3:11)
