Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 6 January 2021

What To Think About

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.(Philippians 4:8-9)

Today’s Morsel:  How much of your day would you say that you spend thinking on the things that Paul mentions here?  According to Paul, these things should be the object of our careful attention and study, so we can practice them.  We should think what they are; think of the obligation we have to observe them; think of the influence which they would have on the world around us.  We should esteem them highly, recommend them heartily, and practice them fervently.  We should meditate on them, turn them around in our minds, seriously consider them, and reason with ourselves about them to put them into practice.  Whenever the thought arises, we should think about them.  The Lord admonishes us through the prophet Haggi, Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.(Haggi 1:5)  What are you thinking about?  Remember that we are warned in Proverbs 23:7, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he...”    I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts.

Sing:  I got a made-up mind, I got a final destination, I'm going to keep pressing on, to my final destination; I'm going to burn all the bridges behind me, break all the ties that bind me; I’m going to keep on pressing on, till I reach my home sweet home, that New Jerusalem.

Thought For Today:  “O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!(Deuteronomy 32:29)
