Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2 January 2021

Rooted and Grounded in Love

“Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:13-21)

Today’s Morsel:  For some time now I have tried to figure out how so many Christians can be void of love in their lives.  I know that scripture tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8), and that love is a part of the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and that love is a character that will reveal our discipleship to Christ.  So how can so many Christians be without it?  Sadly I then realize why.  They are not rooted and grounded in love.  In other words, they do not know Jesus.  Because to know Him and to love him is to be rooted and grounded in Him and to do what He commands us to do.   Many are acquainted with Him, but they are not rooted in Him. When Jesus told the parable of the Sower He stated: “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God…They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.” (Luke 8:11-13)  When there are no roots, temptation will cause you to fall away.  David states: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” (Psalms 1:1-3)  When you are rooted and grounded in Christ, you will prosper.  And that even includes your love.

Sing:  Thy lovingkindness, is better than life. Thy lovingkindness, is better than life.  My lips shall praise Thee, thus will I bless Thee, I will lift up my hands unto Thy name.

Thought For Today:  How deep are your roots?
