Worst
Kind of Deception
“For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he
deceiveth himself.”
(Galatians 6:3)
Today’s
Morsel: The worst kind of deception there is would be
self-deception. When you make yourself believe that you are something
that you are not, you can deceive yourself. Self-conceit can cause
hindrance to forbearance, (mercy, patience, tolerance) and sympathy
(compassion, empathy, kindness, support) towards others. Therefore, it must
be let go and laid aside. As Christians, we are called to be loving, not to be c0nceited, and to think that we are better
than others. We must be doers of God’s word or we can deceive
ourselves. David said of the wicked, “The transgression of the wicked
saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. For
he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be
hateful.”
(Psalms 36:1-2) In other words, he puts such an exalted estimate on himself, he so overrates himself and
his own ability in judging of what is right and proper, that he is allowed to
pursue a course which ultimately makes his conduct detestable to all people; And the result is so apparent and so repulsive, that no one can doubt what he
himself is. The foundation or the basis of all this is haughtiness and a conceited confidence in himself, in his own
importance; in his own judgment; in his own ability to direct his own course regardless of God. Don't be deceived, for
whatsoever a man sows that will he also reap. Don’t get
sanctimonious. Even Jack and Jill fell down the hill.
Sing: Let Jesus lead
you. Let Jesus lead you. All the way from earth to glory, let Jesus
lead you always the way.
Thought For
Today: “If we say that
we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)
