Abiding in Christ
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me
that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he
purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the
word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch
cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye,
except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in
me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do
nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is
withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are
burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye
will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:1-7)
Today’s Morsel: One of the things
about abiding in Christ is we must not allow anything to separate us from
Him. If we are going to be like Him, then we must abide in Him.
Jesus said that if we abide in Him and His word abides in us, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. What does it
mean to abide in Christ? Are you abiding in His word, His gospel, His doctrine,
His righteousness, His holiness, His Love, His joy, and His peace? To
receive from Him, and to be like Him, we must abide in Him. Paul
admonishes the church at Rome, “But if the
Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised
up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit
that dwelleth in you.”
(Romans 8:11) The only way to abide in Him is
to be persuaded that you will remain in Him. Paul said, “For I am
persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any
other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in
Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
Sing: Lord I can’t even walk without
you holding my hand. The mountains too high and the valleys too wide.
Down on my knees, that’s where I learned to pray. And I can’t even walk,
without You holding my hand.
Thought For Today: “Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in
the ship, ye cannot be saved.” (Acts 27:31)
