Baptism Doth Now Save
Us
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust,
that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened
by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in
the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight
souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now
save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a
good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone
into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers
being made subject unto him.” (1 Peter 3:18-22)
Today’s Morsel: There are so
many people that do not understand the importance and value of baptism. Some
churches do not even speak about nor baptize people because they do not see it
as a part of the new birth process. Jesus told Nicodemus, “Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he
cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5) Baptism was practiced by the early church and its leaders and the
apostles of Jesus in receiving people into the
church (See Acts 2, 8,9, 10, 16, 19, 22, Romans 6:1-5). Jesus
says in Mark 16:16, “He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” The Apostle Peter
states that Noah and his family, eight souls, were saved by water and that
baptism is the like figure where unto we are now saved.
The waters that should have drowned Noah and his family, like everyone else,
instead saved them. Instead of covering and destroying the ark, the
waters lifted it to float. The like figure, once we are baptized in
Jesus' name it saves us, Peter said. The ark is a type and shadow of
Jesus, who saves us all. So, get inside. “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on
Christ.”
(Galatians 3:27)
Sing: I’m so glad that I’ve been
buried in the name of the Lord, in the name of the Lord, in the name of the
Lord. I’m so glad that I been buried in the name of the Lord, since the
name of the Lord has been revealed.
Thought For Today: "Other
books were given for information, the Bible was given for transformation."
