Unselfishness
“But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:34-40)
Today’s Morsel: Love has a way of stopping others in their tracks. The Pharisees and Sadducees not only had a problem with Jesus’ doctrine and teachings, but they also had a bigger problem with His actions. They could not believe that a Jewish Rabbi would even dare to get close to sinners. But Jesus simply tried to show them that it is not the righteous that needed healing and deliverance, it was the sick. Jesus was trying to show them that love always puts others and the mission before one’s own self. Jesus was trying to show them that love cannot be selfish. It cannot be a me first mentality. It must always be an unselfish mentality. Especially among leaders and those who have been chosen to lead. Leaders must always be moved with compassion. Both for others and also for themselves. When Jesus was questioned by the lawyer which was the greatest commandment, I don’t think the lawyer was expecting the answer that he received. Nor do I think he was expecting the question that was imposed to him by Jesus. Love has a way of putting you on the spot. Especially when it comes to disagreements among others. Especially in the church. Somebody is going to have to get down off their high horse to prove that they belong to Him.
Sing: I want to live the way He wants me to live. I want to give until there’s just no more to give. I want to love, love till there’s just no more love. I could never, never out love the Lord.
Thought For Today: Selfishness is just a life filled with pride.
