Running In Vain
“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” (Philippians 2:12-16)
Today’s Morsel: In Matthew chapter seven, Jesus makes this comment: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23) Ponder on that for a moment and ask yourself this question, “Am I running in vain?” Am I serving God without truth? Am I saying one thing and doing another? Am I running empty and devoid of the truth? Jesus finishes his comment by telling us why he made the first comment: “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27) If you are going to run in this Christian race, then you must do it based on truth. The word of God. As it is only by and through truth that we are made free and gain access into heaven to appear before Him.
Sing: I’m running for my life, I’m running for my life, I’m running for my life, I’m running for my life. If anybody asks you, what’s the matter with me, tell them, I’m saved, sanctified, Holy Ghost filled, and water baptized, I’ve got heaven on my mind, and I’m running for my life.
Thought For Today: “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:14-15)
