Manifested In Death
“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” (1 John 3:16)
Today’s Morsel: During Memorial Day, I don’t think some folks seem to grasp its meaning and what it means for one to pay the ultimate sacrifice. Those who die while in the service, show their love by laying down their lives for others. John tells us that the way we can come to realize or understand God’s love is because He laid down His life for us. Jesus Christ gave His life so that we might be saved and live. Scripture also tells us: “Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.” (John 13:1) Marriage vows often have this statement: “Do you promise to love, obey, and cherish until death do you part?” God’s love must be unchanging all the way until death. Jesus manifested His love to us when He cried from the cross, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34) And when the thief on the cross said unto Jesus, “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43) Even in His death He manifested His love. For He Himself had said: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
Sing: Loving God, loving each other, making music with my friends; loving God, loving each other, and the story never ends.
Thought For Today: “And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!” (John 11:34-36)
