I Forgot
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-12)
Today’s Morsel: How many excuses have you heard from your children and others because of their slothfulness and unpreparedness? Why didn’t you take out the trash? I forgot. Why didn’t you turn in your school report? I forgot it was due today. Why didn’t you tell me that you had practice after school? I forgot. Why didn’t you tell me that you had to work late so that I did not make dinner? I forgot. Why didn’t you tell me that you were not going to be at church to teach your Sunday school class? I forgot. Does any of this sound familiar? We humans seem to find it easier to make an excuse than to do what is right. I guess the adage that says it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission is true. Mark Twain said, “It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” Why can’t we just be truthful. That is the requirement to enter heaven you know. Liars can’t enter there. Moses told the children of Israel that when they came into the Promised Land to not forget God who brought them out of bondage. But they forgot Him and started making excuses like others. Let me encourage you today, God will not be accepting any excuse for you not doing what His word says. Nor is there going to be anyone getting by with the excuse that they did not know. So don’t forget!
Sing: Sometimes I remember how I used to be living in sin. I tried to act happy and free, but I wasn’t within. I fooled a lot of friends of mine, they thought I had some peace of mind; but I never had a thing till open-up and let Jesus in.
Jesus got a hold of my life, and He won’t let me go. Jesus got into my heart; He got in to my soul. I used to be oh so sad, but now I’m free and glad, cause Jesus got a hold of my life, and He won’t let me go.
Thought For Today: “And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” (Hebrews 12:5-6)
