Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 September 23

Praise The Lord

“Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.” (Psalms 150:1-6)

Today’s Morsel: I often wonder why there is a call for us to praise the Lord in scripture.  Praise is a form of thanksgiving and celebration to God for His goodness, mercy, and grace. It’s offering Him thanks for all that He has done and is doing for us.  The word praise can carry with it many meanings. It can mean to boast, to shine forth, to celebrate, to act like a madman, to glory, to worship, and to applaud. In Psalms 150, we see the word praise mentioned ten times. Isn’t it also amazing that when Jesus talks with the woman at the well in John, chapter 4, their discussion leads into worship and the word is also used ten times “The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:19-24) Can you think of ten things that you are daily thankful to God for? Do you praise Him for His goodness? Do you praise Him for His love? Do you praise Him because He is God? Are you a worshipper? Well, now is the time for the true worshippers to arise and worship Him in Spirit and in truth. “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.” (Psalms 50:23). Make it a daily habit to praise Him at least ten times a day.

Sing: Father I see that You are drawing a line in the sand, and I want to be standing on Your side, holding Your hand.  So let your kingdom come, let it live in me, this is my prayer, this is my plea;

Let the worshippers arise, let the sons and the daughters sing. I’m surrendering in my all, I surrender to the King.
