Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 7 June 2023

Stuck In the Past, Blocked from the Future

“Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples. We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is. The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.” (John 9:26-30)

Today’s Morsel: Paul warns us that we should beware of the tradition of men and not after Christ. Some churches are continuing to hold onto the tradition of men. Many of them are still segregated, while others are seeking men to forgive them of their sins, and others are still treating Jesus as the son of God instead of treating Him as the God whom He is. They are stuck in the past which is blocking them from the future. You can’t move forth when you live in the past. Paul told the church at Rome:“Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth. For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.” (Romans 10:1-5) Notice, he said that Israel had a zeal for God but not according to knowledge. Then he said that Jesus is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes. Jesus Christ fulfilled the ceremonial law. When the veil of the temple was rent at the death of Jesus, it gave everyone free access to Him. No man can forgive you of your sin. John says: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin... If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:7, 9) You can repent of your sins yourself. James tells us: “If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.” (James 2:8-9) God is no respecter of persons. If you or your church is not reaching out to every race, creed, color, when those races and people are around you, you are stuck in the past and blocking yourself and others for what God may have for you and them in the future. Let go of those traditions of men that go against God’s word and do what Christ is asking you to do, so you can enjoy the future.

Sing: He’s changing me, my blessed Savior, I’m not the same person that I use to be. Well, it’s been slow going, but there’s a knowing that someday, perfect I shall be.
