The Anchor of Hope

“Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.” (Hebrews 6:17-20)

Today’s Morsel: An anchor is a heavy object attached to a rope or chain and used to moor a vessel. Throughout life, there are going to be those times that the currents and waves of life are going try to drive us. There are going to be those times that you feel as though your ship is trying to sink. Therefore, we need to identify something that is steadfast and immovable now for us to attach ourselves to. The writer of Hebrews tells us that God’s Word and promises are an anchor for the soul, both sure and steadfast. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35) This anchor will hold despite the storm. When you feel as though you have nothing else that you can anchor to, just anchor to Jesus, and stand on His Word.

Sing: When you've done all that you can, Stand on His Word. When you've stood all you can stand, do what you've learned. Remember all you've read is true, God said He'll always bring you thru, in spite of everything you've heard, Stand on His word.
