Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 4 September 2020

Worldly Ways

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
(1 John 2:15-17)

Today’s Morsel:  If you take on the world and its ways, then prepare yourself for the consequences that come with that choice.  We are told to not love the world nor the things of the world because they will pass away.  If you ever notice, the fads of this world continue to change rapidly.  This is because man is controlling it.  It is all about money.  The world has people on a rollercoaster for more and the next best thing.  And many have purchased a ticket to ride.  Paul informs us, “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.(1 Timothy 6:6-10)  Don’t get on the rollercoaster ride for the next best gadget or worldly fun. It will pull you under.  Keep your eyes on Jesus and the world will not steal your heart.

Sing:  Jesus, You’re the center of my joy.  All that's good and perfect comes from You.  You’re the heart of my contentment, hope for all I do.  Jesus, You’re the center of my joy.

Thought For Today:  “Keep your eyes on Jesus and the world will not steal your heart”(Parker).
