And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand. (2 Samuel 5:19)
Today's Morsel: Every man, at one time or another, seeks advice for direction and guidance. We have pastors, teachers, counselors, mentors, commanders, sergeants, all whom God has placed in our paths to give us advice and direction. But we must always seek God and His word, to ensure that the advice and direction that is being given is according to His word and is good for our life. As Solomon said, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 14:12). I find that throughout scripture, when other kings wanted King Jehoshaphat to help them in battle he always said, "Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him...?" 2 Kings 3:11 is just one of the examples. What Jehoshaphat was saying was, what does God say and what does He think about it. David said, "Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon him while he is near." David wanted to know if God was with him before he went into battle. And his son Solomon would later write, "Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war" (Proverbs 20:18). If you are facing a battle, have you sought the Lord for His counsel and direction?
Sing: Seek Ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you, Allelu-Alleluia.
Thought for Today: Every man at one time or another seeks advice for direction and guidance. (Parker)
