And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
(Luke 2:48-52)
Today's Morsel: As I was studying the word of God the other day, it says twice in Luke chapter 2, that Mary hid the sayings in her heart (verses 19 and 51). What about you, do you keep what people tell you in your heart? In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat had to remind God of what He had said to them. "And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee? Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying, If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help" (2 Chronicles 20:5-9). When is the last time you prayed and reminded God of what He said. God is not a man that He should lie, so remind Him of what He said. You are not going to offend Him. I think He will be pleased that you know what He says to you in His word. Mary knew who He was based on what she heard the shepherd tell her about Him, and Jesus himself. And so when they needed wine atthe marriage in Cana (John 2), she just told the servants, "Wwhatsoever He says to you to do, do it." Do you know Him? Have you hidden the sayings of Him in your heart?
Sing: Standing on the promises of Christ my King, through eternal ages let His praises ring. Glory in the highest I will shout and sing, standing on the promises of God.
Standing! Standing! Standing on the promises of Christ my Savior, standing, standing, I'm standing on the promises of God.
Thought for Today: The word hidden in your heart today, could mean the difference between life and death tomorrow (Parker).
