Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2025 August 19

The Test of Time

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17)

Today’s Morsel: Do you ever wonder what will happen to all the folks who do not obey the gospel? Do you ever wonder what it was like after Noah entered the Ark, and the Lord shut the door and the rain came? What about the message that got back to the families of Pharoah’s army who drowned in the Red Sea chasing after the children of Israel? Peter informs us that it’s time for us, that are born again, to start judging ourselves. He told us to make our calling and election sure. And he told us that we must be sober, vigilant, and alert because our adversary the devil is walking about seeking whom he may devour. The apostle Paul tells us, “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.” (2 Corinthians 13:5-6) James tells us that faith without works is dead. He asked; “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:14-26) Is there enough works in your life to support that your faith is active and not dead. Time is running out.

Sing: Time is filled with swift transition, naught of earth unmoved can stand; build your hopes on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand!

Hold to God’s unchanging hand! Hold to God’s unchanging hand! Build your hopes on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Thought For Today“But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:20-21)
