You Don’t Have To Fall
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-11)
Today’s Morsel: Peters writings encourage us to make our calling and election sure. We ought to strive and live our lives in a way that confirms that our salvation is real. If you are a hit and miss Christian to church, people are going to start to question your calling and commitment. We should never fall away from God’s grace, love, and mercy. We ought to be committed to the things of God always. Peter tells us to add to our faith so that we don’t fall. If serving Christ isn’t your number one priority, then falling away is always an exit ramp that folks will take when trials, stress, and anxiety come into their life. Paul said they had left him for the world. Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. It’s easy to turn your back on Christ and others if you are not adding to your faith daily. But if you add virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity, Peter tells us that we you will never fall away. Man, hell is a long time to spend in eternity because one was too lazy to add to their faith. “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” (Hebrews 6:4-6). I don’t know about you, but I don’t plan on falling away. I am going to keep adding to my faith.
Sing: I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back, no turning back.
Thought For Today: “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:31)
