Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2025 January 1

A New Beginning

“And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.” (Exodus 12:1-2)

Today’s Morsel: At the beginning of each new year, some folks will make a new year’s resolution for what they desire to do for the year. Many will make vows to lose weight, become a better person, read and study their Bibles more, and even get back to attending church. Many start off good, but they soon fizzle out because they lose interest, or they allow others and things to hinder their progress.

When God was getting ready to bring Isreal out of captivity from Egypt, he told Moses, “This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.”  I believe God was saying, I’m going to give every one of you a brand-new start. That is what God does for each of us when we first become born again Christians. It’s a new start. God is bringing us out of the world, and we are starting afresh and anew. Paul states: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). You don’t have to worry about the mistakes that you have made. You are made new. So, you really do need to make a new year’s resolution for what you are going to do. As Nike said, “Just do it!” Goals are good, but all you really need to do is be the person Christ has chosen you to be, and you can accomplish many great things.

Sing: I was once a sinner, but I came, pardon to receive from my Lord; This was freely given, and I found, that He always kept His word.

There’s a new name written down in glory, and it’s mine, oh yes, it’s mine! And the white-robed angels sing the story “A sinner has come home” For there’s a new name written down in glory, and it’s mine, o yes, it’s mine! With my sins forgiven I am bound for heaven, never more to roam.
