How’s Your Attitude?
“And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:1-16)
Today’s Morsel: Attitudes can fall into two categories: Good or evil. We never see in scripture attitudes as being positive or negative. They are either good or evil. Jesus said: “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (Luke 6:45) When we become born-again, our attitudes ought to be good. There should never be any evil found in us because God is good all the time. We ought to be going out of our way to inspire and encourage others daily. Someone said that Jesus taught His disciples the beatitude so that they would improve their attitudes. We see this even when the disciples asked Jesus how often they should forgive someone who offended them. Jesus tells them 460 times. To which the disciples say, “Lord increase our faith.” Many would say that’s a lot. But Jesus was teaching them the importance of attitude adjustment. You are supposed to have a good attitude and not allow things that others do to offend you. All because you no longer belong to, nor are you a part of this world. As scripture says, “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.” (Psalms 119:165) You now belong to Jesus, and He is good, as we are quick to say, all the time. Even as John admonishes, “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” (1 John 2:6) How’s your attitude?
Sing: I want to live the way He wants me to live. I want to give until there’s just no more to give. I want to love, love till there’s just no more love. I could never, never, out love the Lord.
