The Clay Has No Power
“Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?” (Isaiah 45:9)
Today’s Morsel: One of the lessons we learn in life is that things, and even humans have no power over the ones who made them. It’s not the automobile that has the power, but the hands that make it. It’s not the horse that has the power, but the Lord which created him. It is not the clay that has the power but the hands that shape it. It not the human that has the power, but the Lord which created him. The only power we have is that which God gives to us for His purpose and glory, not our own. The Lord said to Jeremiah, “O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.” (Jeremiah 18:6) He continues through Jeremiah by saying: “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.” (Jeremiah 9:23-24) We must know who has the power. When he brought Ezekiel into the valley of dry bones, “And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.” (Ezekiel 37:3). Ezekiel knew that he had no power to make these bones live. Only God could do that. The psalmist wrote: “God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.” (Psalms 62:11) Remember, we were created from the dust of the earth. Therefore, we have no power of our own selves. Scripture tells us, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” (Romans 13:1) The power we have has been given by the hands that made us, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13).
Sing: There is power, power, wonder working power in the blood of the Lamb. There is power, power, wonder working power, in the precious blood of the Lamb.
