False Advertisement
“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” (Matthew 23:27-28)
Today’s Morsel: I was talking with a lady a few weeks ago, and we were discussing why our food never seems to turn out like the advertisement. We chuckled about our conversation since we know that a lot of times there are false advertisements because some folks don’t want what you are cooking to turn out like theirs, they want you to keep coming back to them. For example, my wife and I have tried everything to make Applebee’s Spinach Artichoke Dip several times. But it never tastes quite like theirs. And so, we keep going back to the restaurant to get the original.
Jesus told the religious leaders that they were false advertisers. He told them that they appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so, He said, that they also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within they were full of hypocrisy and iniquity. What about us? Are we the real deal? Do people see us as the real deal or do they see us the way that Jesus saw the religious leaders in His day. Corrupt and wrong. Do we say one thing and do another? Do we treat everyone the same without looking at the race, creed, or origin? Do we render help to everyone the same? Do we charge others less than we do those of our own race? Do we turn others down because they don’t look like us? Do we give everyone the same opportunities to excel as we do those to whom we know? Do we judge everyone by the same standard? James tells tell us, “If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.” (James 2:8-9) If someone challenged your faith and walk with God, how would you feel? If it upsets you, they may be right. But if you can smile and continue going on, you know that you have His anointing and your walk is pure.
Sing: This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine; This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
