Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 7 January 2019

Skip or Dip

“And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper. Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean” (2 Kings 5:10-14).

Today’s Morsel:  One of the things about success is that it can make you prideful.  Naaman was a great commander and a man used by God.  So by all account, he was a successful person.  His problem was, he was a leper.  Yet when he was told where he could receive healing, he didn’t like the instructions given to him.  Go dip seven times in the Jordan river.  Elisha didn’t care if he dipped or not.  He could either skip or dip, it was his choice and his decision.  The same is true with us.  Jesus said, “And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:47-48).  Notice, Jesus isn’t going to judge you if you do or don’t do what His word says, He simply says, you’ll see and hear it again.  John said, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works… And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:12,15).  We can either skip what God’s word says, or we can dip deeper into it and do it.  God has given us His word and He simply leaves that choice to us whether or not we obey what it says.  As for me and my house, we have chosen to obey.

Sing:  Are you washed in the blood?  In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?  Are your garments spotless, are the white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Thought For Today:  Skip or dip, the choice is yours.
