Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 19 January 2019

Wisdom

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many” (Proverbs 4:1-10).

Today’s Morsel:  I really like the Book of Proverbs.  It is filled with wisdom for everyone.  Some people say that the Old Testament is obsolete and outdated and that we shouldn’t use it anymore.  Well, I guess maybe that’s why there are so many divorces nowadays.  And why people don’t know who or what they are.  And why depression is taking over the life of so many.  And why many are homeless and hopeless.  And why children are being disobedient to their parents.  And indebtedness is out of control.  And why man has gone back into the caveman primitive way of life.  I guess when a life is void of wisdom then that’s what we can expect because God’s word says these things will be the end state without wisdom.  If you want to avoid these things in your life and home, then get wisdom.  Read a chapter from the book of Proverbs every day.

Sing:  Deeper, deeper, in the love of Jesus, daily let me go.  Higher, higher, in the school of wisdom, more of grace to know.
O deeper yet I pray, and higher every day.  And wiser, blessed Lord, in Thy precious word.

Thought For Today:  Wisdom is still the principle thing.
