Partakers of The Divine Nature
“Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1:1-4)
Today’s Morsel: One of our ultimate goals ought to be to become like Jesus. We must be partakers of His divine nature. The Holy Ghost in us ought to display on the outside of us the attributes of God. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faith, humility, and self-control should be seen in our lives no matter where we are and what is happening around us. God’s attribute of holiness, light, grace, mercy, and compassion should drive your actions and conduct daily. Paul told the church at Philippi: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” (Philippians 2:5) John enlightened us with these words: “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” (1 John 2:3-6) If we are not walking as He walked, chances are we have not partaken of His divine nature, and we need to spend more time in His presence and in His word.
Sing: To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, on earth I long to be like Him. All through life’s journey from earth to glory, I only ask to be like Him.
Thought For Today: “For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” (Hebrews 3:14-15)
