The Clay In The Potters Hand

The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.” (Jeremiah 18:1-6)

Today’s Morsel:  When I was in elementary school, we spent a good amount of time playing with clay.  Our time was spent making flowers, animals, houses, automobiles, or some other item. Those items revealed our thought process.  When I lived in Asia, it was neat to observe the potters working with clay on the potter’s wheel,  they made so many beautiful items.  I have seen the potter crush what they were making and start anew.  They seem to have in mind what they were making, and how it should look before the completed process.  And so, they saw a flaw and started over if the item on the wheel did not look right to them.  That is how it is with Jesus.  He sees what He wants us to be.  And so, He remakes us for His beauty and glory.  Sometimes in this process, it is not pleasing to us, as it can sometimes be very painful.  But He knows what He wants us to be, He has a perfect end vessel in mind.   As Isaiah says, “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3)  He makes everything beautiful in His time, we can trust the Potter.

Sing:  He gave me beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that we might be trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.

Thought For Today: Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?” (Romans 9:21)
