Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2017 October 9

“Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” (Proverbs 8:6-11)

Today’s Morsel:  Why do we like to compare what we have to what others have?  Why do we allow the enemy to put us into competition with others?  Why do we think that the state in which others live in is better than the state that we live in?  Why do we think their church is better than our church?  Paul said, “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise” (2 Corinthians 10:12).  Are we missing wisdom when we do these things?  Solomon said that wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that we may desire are not to be compared to it.  He was saying that nothing can be compared to wisdom.  Therefore, if we seek her (wisdom), she will be a part of us and we won’t have to worry about comparing what we have to others.

Sing:  Thou Lord God, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power, Thou Lord God, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thine outstretched arm.
Nothing is too difficult for Thee, nothing is too difficult for Thee.  Great and mighty God, great in counsel, mighty indeed; nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing, nothing is too difficult for Thee.

Thought For Today: Nothing compares to wisdom.
