"Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he" (Proverbs 29:18)
Today's Morsel: There was this children's educational song that said, " Conjunction junction, what's your function?" In other words, what is the purpose of a conjunction. Conjunctions are words such as: And, but, or, neither, nor, either, or, etc. They serve to bring a thought together. Solomon said, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." If there is no divine communications, and if there are no divine direction and guidance shown and given too followers, they become as it was after the death of Joshua: "Every man did that which was right in his own eyes" (Judges 21:25). T hey Perish. As the Lord told Hosea, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge " (Hosea 4:6). But, Solomon said, "He that keep the law is happy." He brings the thought together to make the scripture complete. He said, when we have no directions and no communications, if we still obey and follow God's Word, we still will not go wrong. Because, "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward" (Psalms 19:7-11). You see, when you mediate upon the law, David said, you become like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper (Psalms 1:3). But, sad to say, too many folks in the church won't do anything unless their leaders say so. That's all well and fine, but when that divine communications and directions isn't there, these same folks become disheartened and don't know where to turn. They may just become foot loose and fancy free! But on the other hand, if they will learn to follow and obey the Word of God for themselves, they can still retain their joy and excitement even when there is no divine communications and direction. And they will never perish. Because we follow Christ.
Sing: He leadeth me! He leadeth me! By His own hand He leadeth me; His faithful follower I would be, for by His hand He leadeth me.
