2012 April 24 - Morning Manna

Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath. And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left. (2 Kings 22:1-2)

Today's Morsel: I love it when I hear ministers say that all their lives they have been in the church, served God, and have lived in truth. These are rare trophies, especially in today's world. When a child is trained at an early age, given an understanding of the things and ways of God, shown how to make godly and timely decisions as they relate to God, and are instructed in the correct ways of worship, and shown a love for the things of God, they usually will follow through with living their lives for God. Josiah began to reign as king when he was eight years old and he reigned for thirty one years, and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord. And his mother's name was Jedidah. This family was from the tribe of Judah. The tribe of praise and the linage line to the Savior. I always find it interesting that whether a child does right or evil in scripture, the mothers' name is oftentimes mentioned. Scripture says that, "The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed"(Titus 2:3-5).

Because she is to be the keeper of the home, if she neglects her God given calling to the home, it can make a difference whether or not her children grow up becoming good or evil. There are no guarantees, but a mother's love, guidance, and discipline has a profound influence on a child. Apparently, Josiah's mother taught him the right way. Solomon said, "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate" (Psalms 127:3-5). It has been stated that a child unspotted by the world is a trophy of God. Oh, that our children will be His trophies!

Sing: Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world; red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world.
