“Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days. And the LORD spake unto me, saying, Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward. And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore: Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink” Deuteronomy 2:1-6)
Today’s Morsel:Who would have ever thought that we would have to buy water to drink? In some places, it costs more to purchase water then soda. In some restaurants, they will charge you for water; whereas, in times past they would have never charged you for a glass of water. Are we really paying for the coffee and tea, or the water to make it? As Moses is calling the children of Israel to attention to the things that God had done for them, he informed them that the Lord had told them that they were not to meddle with the children of Esau, but they were to buy their meat and water from them with money. God didn’t want the children of Esau to think that He could not provide for the children of Israel, but wanted them to know that the children of Israel had the means and the provisions to purchase whatsoever they needed.
“Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price” said Isaiah the prophet (Isaiah 55:1). “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) (John 7:37-39). Do you need water today? Are you feeling a little thirsty? Well, it’s time for the refreshing. You no longer need money to purchase your water. As Jesus told the woman at the well, "I will be in you a well of water springing up unto eternal life." Jesus has already paid the tab for you. This living water is free to all who will come to drink of it.
Sing: Drinking at the springs of living water, happy now am I, my soul they satisfy, drinking at the springs of living waters, what a wonderful and bountiful supply.
