 Beware of False Prophets

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”  (Matthew 7:15)

Today’s Morsel:  When the Bible speaks of sheep, it is often referring to God’s people.  When the scripture says that false prophets would come in sheep’s clothing, it means that they will come as the ministers of God.  They would be called preachers of the gospel.  How can we detect these false prophets?  Well, Jesus said, Ye shall know them by their fruits… (Matthew 7:16).  Paul said that they would have a form of Godliness but would deny the power thereof.  Outwardly, they look and act the part, but inwardly, they are ready to devour you.  They say one thing and do another.  They are greedy for filthy lucre.  Their messages are always about prosperity, sowing financial seed into the kingdom, and coming as you are.  Jude states, “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.(Jude 1:3-4)  These words contain a reason why the doctrine of faith should be contended for, because of false teachers.  You must know the truth to avoid being deceived and led astray.  Paul said that in the last days, men would give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.  Many are going to follow the teachings of these false prophets and teachers and think that they are on their way to heaven.  But they will awake to find themselves lost and confused.  Jesus calls them workers of iniquity.  If we are going to avoid being deceived and lead away, then we must remain faithful to the faith once delivered to the saints.

Sing:  Jesus hold my hand, Lord, I need Thee every hour.  Through this pilgrim land, protect me by the saving power.  Hear my feeble plea, O’ Lord look down on me.  When I kneel in prayer, I know I’ll meet you there, blessed Jesus hold my hand.

Thought For Today:Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.(2 Timothy 2:15)
